11-Year-Old Girl, Who Underwent Life-Saving Treatment, & Her Mother, 31, Identified Among 7 Fatalities in Philadelphia Plane Crash – Details

The government of Ensenada has expressed its condolences regarding the tragic plane crash in Philadelphia that resulted in the deaths of a young child and her mother. The Mayor addressed the incident publicly.

On February 1, 2025, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker provided details about the plane crash via X, confirming that seven individuals lost their lives in the tragedy that occurred on January 31, 2025. Among the deceased were a 31-year-old mother and her 11-year-old daughter, who reportedly had health issues, as noted by a family friend.

Mayor Parker indicated that at least 19 individuals received treatment at various local hospitals and urged residents to stay informed through official sources, including the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management, for the latest updates and guidance. She emphasized the importance of the ongoing investigation into the incident. Furthermore, she mentioned that her administration is collaborating with the NTSB and other local, state, and federal partners in response efforts.

While expressing gratitude for the assistance received, Mayor Parker cautioned residents to remain at home, as significant work is still required. Among the seven fatalities, she specifically named Valentina Guzmán Murillo and Lizeth Murillo Osuna.

Claudia Agatón Muñiz, the President of Ensenada, extended her sympathies on Facebook regarding the devastating loss and the families affected.

In her post, she honored the memory of the mother and daughter. Muñiz’s message, originally in Spanish, was translated into English as, “I lament the loss of Lizeth Murillo Osuna and Valentina Guzmán Murillo. I send my condolences and best wishes to their loved ones.” Additionally, she expressed, “From the bottom of my heart, my deepest condolences to all their family and loved ones,” wishing them strength and peace during this difficult time. The Ensenada government, echoing Muñiz’s sentiments, released an official statement regarding the Philadelphia plane crash, reflecting on the tragedy and noting that the aircraft went down in Tijuana, resulting in the loss of Ensenada residents.
The city has committed to offering psychological and thanatological assistance to families in mourning.

The government has pledged to facilitate the repatriation and recovery of the victims’ remains, ensuring their return to Ensenada. Mayor Muñiz has instructed municipal departments to work in conjunction with state and federal authorities to deliver timely and effective support to the affected families.

In addition to the government’s findings, a family friend of the deceased mother and daughter has shared insights.

César Esparza, whose daughter was a classmate of the late girl, reported that Murillo has been receiving treatment for a spinal condition at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia since late August.

The hospital acknowledged the challenges she faced in obtaining adequate therapy in Mexico but refrained from disclosing further details. Esparza referred to the young girl as “a warrior” in light of her health struggles.

Shriners Children’s Philadelphia expressed their condolences on Instagram regarding Murillo’s passing, while also respecting patient privacy. The statement indicated that she and her mother were en route back to Mexico on the Jet Rescue Air Ambulance when the tragic accident occurred.

“Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the medical crew and pilots who also perished in this unfortunate incident, as well as all those affected on the ground. We are grateful to the first responders for their swift actions,” the hospital conveyed.

The city’s website is providing real-time updates on the investigation into the plane crash to keep residents, businesses, and media informed.

The number of injured individuals has risen to 22, with five still hospitalized, three of whom are in critical condition.

Officials reported that the incident has caused significant disruptions in Northeast Philadelphia. The Department of Streets is managing route alterations while Cottman Avenue remains closed between Bustleton Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard.

This closure has necessitated that pedestrians, students, and SEPTA commuters utilize the signalized pedestrian crossing at Friendship Street. Despite these restrictions, the lanes on Roosevelt Boulevard remain open.
NTSB investigators are currently present at the crash site to determine the cause of the incident. According to the FAA, the private Learjet 55 went down just one minute after takeoff. Onboard were a mother and daughter, along with four crew members, traveling from Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri to Mexico.

In light of the significant impact of this event, the city has organized a town hall meeting for Wednesday, during which local leaders will address community concerns and provide resources.

Business owners facing road closures and operational challenges are encouraged to reach out to the Department of Commerce.

Mayor Parker emphasized the city’s support for the victims during a media briefing, stating, “This is a tragedy in our city—people have lost their lives, and many have been injured in this horrific crash.” She extended her condolences to the victims and their families. Governor Josh Shapiro echoed her sentiments, commending first responders and emergency personnel for their swift actions and reaffirming Pennsylvania’s full support.

The American Red Cross—Southeastern Pennsylvania is assisting victims at an emergency shelter.

For those affected by the tragedy, the city’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services is providing mental health services.

These developments coincide with the release of doorbell camera footage from Northeast Philadelphia capturing the tragic medical plane crash into a busy street, which has since gone viral. The video, recorded on January 31, shows two individuals outside who are startled by a loud explosion. They turn to witness the aircraft descending rapidly before crashing nearby. Following a brief flash of light, a loud explosion occurs, prompting bystanders to seek shelter indoors.

The unsettling footage has sparked widespread discussion, with many describing it as bizarre and disturbing.

One observer remarked, “I recognized it was a plane, but it didn’t appear to be one. Perhaps it was the cloud cover that made it seem to appear suddenly and plunge to the ground. It looked like it was moving faster than a small aircraft.”
One individual expressed their condolences, stating, “I can only imagine how terrifying this must have been! My heartfelt sympathies go out to the families of the victims of the plane crash.” Another remarked, “I can envision that being the most frightening experience imaginable!”

According to online observers, the aircraft may have ignited prior to its impact. Additional comments noted that a witness in the footage seemed to react to an unusual noise just before the crash occurred.

Some viewers described the video as one of the most terrifying they had ever encountered, expressing concern for the terrified individuals involved. One commenter extended their sympathies to the victims, particularly upon learning that a child was on board.

The incident on Friday took place less than three miles from the airport around 6 p.m. Selkuc Koc, a server at a nearby diner, reported hearing a loud explosion, initially mistaking it for a “thunderstorm.” Upon looking outside, he observed thick smoke and flames rising, likening it to a gas station explosion.

The explosion scattered debris across nearby buildings. One diner patron sustained injuries when a large metal object crashed through a window, contributing to the chaos. Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel indicated that investigators were still in the process of identifying individuals in the vicinity at the time of the incident, complicating efforts to determine the total number of victims.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting an investigation at the crash site, which spans four to six blocks, collecting debris and assessing the damage. NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy characterized the event as a “high-impact crash” that resulted in significant fragmentation of the aircraft.

Investigators are actively searching for the cockpit voice recorder, which may provide insights into the events leading up to the crash. Officials expressed concern that the force of the collision could have damaged or destroyed the recorder, but they remain hopeful about retrieving and analyzing it. The Learjet 55 did not respond to communications from operators during the recording.

“What is happening down there?” inquired a controller. “We have lost an aircraft. The circumstances remain unclear. Our objective is to ascertain the details.” Air traffic controllers announced that the airfield would be closed to both incoming and outgoing flights.
